About

Alex Novitski is a graphic artist, illustrator, and 2D animator whose work bridges traditional draftsmanship with contemporary visual storytelling.

Born and raised in Minsk, USSR, he has been drawing since childhood and graduated in 1986 from Minsk’s specialized art school‑lyceum No. 26, an experience that shaped his belief in nurturing creative potential from an early age.

In the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s, Alex was an active participant in the Belarusian creative movement “Belaruski Klimat,” which brought together independent musicians, painters, poets, and other artists. His graphic works from this period—intricate black‑and‑white ink drawings marked by meticulous linework and fantastical imagery—were exhibited in galleries and museums across Belarus, Russia, Denmark, Germany, the USA, and Canada, and many now reside in private collections.

In 2000, Alex immigrated to Canada with his family, settling in Toronto, where he worked as a freelance illustrator, graphic artist, and animator. Alongside his professional practice, he taught drawing to children, continuing his commitment to early artistic development. His illustrations and cover art have appeared in numerous publications, including Zaklina dobro, Przygody elfów i gnomów, and other literary works.

A notable milestone came in 2002, when Alex’s interactive multimedia book Fig‑Tree was recognized by the Russian Academy of Internet (RAI) in the Net‑Art category, receiving a nomination for the first prize. His animation work has also earned acclaim: in 2009, his short animated film Born to be… won both the Jury Prize and the Audience Award at the TAIS (Toronto Animated Image Society) Animation Jam. In 2012, his comic After School took first place at Wizard World Comic Con in Toronto.

Since 2016, Alex has lived and worked in Poznań, Poland, continuing to develop his artistic practice. His recent works often combine ink with watercolor, creating allegorical scenes and vivid metaphors rendered with delicate detail and a distinctive sense of composition.
