Ancient Roman Couch
Ancient Roman Couch is one of my early 1990s paintings, created soon after a formative trips to Israel and Italy. It was intended as the first in a series of “letter paintings” from a fictional Eastern alphabet, though the other works have not survived. The painting itself was preserved thanks to my first wife, Inna, who loved it and kept it when we divorced. In 2013, during my exhibition in Vilnius, I gathered works from private collections across Belarus and Europe, and Ancient Roman Couch was included. After the show, I was able to make a high‑quality digital copy and produce numbered giclée editions.
